The biggest testimony of my life Last year I developed a continuous cough and high temperature. I was found to have low white cell counts and diagnosed to have Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. The continuous cough was due to acute pulmonary tuberculosis as a result of activation of dormant tuberculosis due to low immunity. I underwent chemotherapy for the same at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The doctors had never treated a patient with leukaemia and tuberculosis both simultaneously. Although I went into complete remission, since the treatment was very intense I developed all the complications of chemotherapy. The biggest complication that I developed was heart failure. My heart was in a miserable state with an ejection fraction ( pumping capacity ) of 15 % .

The normal ejection fraction of a person is around 60 %. Also my heart valves had become severely leaky. The cardiologist was very unsure of any recovery. I couldn’t get further cycles of any intravenous chemotherapy because of my heart. The last resort was to keep me on a mild oral chemotherapy to remain in remission. My leukaemia is of a high risk variety and the only cure is said to be a bone marrow transplant that needs intravenous chemotherapy as a part of conditioning . My doctors thought that if my heart pumping capacity returns back to 50 %, they will be able to go ahead with my transplant. All this while I, my family and church kept praying for me.

I didn’t have a donor, so God made two umbilical cords available for me. I was very grateful to God for this but was worried for my heart. I kept saying that Jesus since you are in my heart please rectify it . I underwent a cardiac MRI for a revaluation of my heart condition some days back (around 6 months after it was diagnosed to have failed) . My cardiologist who was unsure if I could ever be back to normal told me that he has a very good news for me. My heart did not only show improvement, it is absolutely healthy now with an ejection fraction of 64% and there are no signs of scarring . I believe it’s astonishing when even doctors lose hope but our Jesus work miraculously and save us. I believe he is always watching us and will come for help when needed. The only obstacle now is a successful transplant and I am positive that Jesus is going to be my help as always. Praise his name forever.
